How did farming families live in times past? Why did taverns have bars on the windows? Where did people go shopping? We will see how people lived in a Weinviertler village more than 100 years ago and discover how different life was back then. Finally, each child will make their own little farmhouse to take home with them.

Life and Work on a Farm

Which animals were kept on farms in times past and what did the farms look like? What can a big pile of manure tell us? And why is there a bed in the stable? Goats, pigs, donkeys, chickens and other animals are waiting for us at the living Farm and want to be stroked and fed.

Laying Bricks!

From Clay to Bricks
© Roman Jandl

How were houses built in times past? What is a wall made of? And how do you make a brick using just soil, sand and water? We take a look at clay walls and then make a brick of our own. With age-appropriate moulds and your very own brick stamp you can get down to work and actively gain an understanding of clay as a construction material.

Trades in Times Past

Why is everything so black in the forge? How does the last come out of the shoe? How do you make a cartwheel? As we walk through the Museumsdorf we will stop off at various workshops from the past and learn how craftsmen’s families lived in times gone-by. Children also have the opportunity to handle and get to know different tools and products.

Duration: approx. 90 min
Costs: € 6,50 per child

Experience Nature!

What do plants need to thrive? Which ones can we use in the kitchen? Do the gardens just have plants in them, or can we find insects and small wild animals as well? And where do wild bees actually live? Finally, we will make some potpourri bags and fill them with fragrant herbs.

Costs: € 6,50 per child
